The Basics
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) lets you subscribe to multiple blogs and news sites. The instant a new article is published, it is delivered to your RSS reader. It’s kind of like email but kept in separate web-based software so it won’t clog up your inbox.
Who uses RSS?
Hundreds of millions of people. If you have 5 favourite websites, you might check all these sites several times per day for updates. With RSS, you simply open your RSS reader and all the updates are brought to you, in one place. Leave your RSS reader open while you surf and it will notify you of new articles as and when they are published.
What software should I use?
The easiest software to use is Google Reader. My Yahoo is a suitable alternative for those of you who use Yahoo regularly.
How do I add a feed to my reader?
Look for the orange RSS logo or text which says “subscribe”.
You will then be brought to a new page where you can add this feed to the top reader software such as Google and Yahoo. You may also copy the address of the feed from your browser and add a subscription directly from your browser to this address. It is very easy to use.
I’m still confused
