Lonely Planet guidebooks – The nomad bible

Among backpackers and nomads, the Lonely Planet guidebooks have become the defacto bible. These guide books are packed with intricate details and advice for travelling in specific countries. There is a guidebook for just about every country in the world – including Afghanistan. This article looks at what makes them so great and why you shouldn’t leave home without one.

It’s worth pointing out that I am creating a series of free 60 second travel guides so be sure to check them out for some quick information on your destination.

The entire reason I began travelling was due to reading my friend’s Lonely Planet Thailand book back in 2003. Since then, I try to pick one up before every trip I go on. They are written by a small team of authors, who are usually expats in the country in question. Lonely Planet guidebooks are extremely well written and cover everything a traveller could possibly want to know about a country.
